Hand Knit Yosemite Sam Sweater

$485.00

Large-scale hand-knit sweater featuring a Yosemite Sam motif, restored and refurbished.

Category: Restored

File Under: #HandKnit, #TextileRestoration, #AnimatedMotifs, #DomesticCraft

Description

Hand-knit sweater featuring an intarsia image of Yosemite Sam, a character from Merrie Melodies. The garment was sourced from the Hamilton Antique Market and appears to be a domestic hand-knitting project rather than a commercial product.

The sweater has been fully restored. Two small holes were consolidated into the surrounding knit structure and are no longer visible. The entire garment underwent professional ecological dry cleaning, followed by extensive handwork to remove pilling, surface fuzz, and accumulated wear.

The knit is substantial and heavy, with dropped shoulders and a wide body. Proportions are oversized and relaxed, allowing the garment to function either as a loose sweater or as a sweater dress depending on the wearer.

Within Clearance Archive, the piece is positioned as an example of domestic labor intersecting with mass media imagery—slow, manual production carrying a widely recognized cartoon figure without reinterpretation.
