Messy Boots

Beige vinyl calf-height boots with triple-zip construction, originally produced by Acne Studios (FW2019). Remade by Chains using post-consumer materials and resin.

Description

Originally designed with three functional zippers per boot, allowing multiple wearing configurations and variable calf fit. The zipper system remains fully operational.

The original zipper pulls have been removed and replaced with found keychains and hardware, including a toy car, chain links, and a waterproof capsule. These substitutions maintain function while altering the handling and weight of the closures.

The exterior surfaces of both boots have been fully embedded with post-consumer objects—sourced, arranged, and sealed in layered applications of non-toxic UV resin. Materials include small toys, ephemera, fasteners, and fragments accumulated through repeated handling and curing. The surface is hardened but flexible enough for wear.

The soles have been treated with a green paint and leather-medium mixture to introduce texture and grip.

At the rear opening of the right boot, three hand-stamped aluminum tags are fixed in a vertical sequence reading:
“CHAIN2 CHAINS”
“MESSY SINCE”
“1983”

Women’s EU size 39. Fits standard.
