$345.00

Handmade babydoll dress remade with ribcage appliqué and natural dye treatment.

Category: Remade

File Under: #Upcycle, #AnatomicImagery, #HandmadeGarments, #MaterialIntervention

Description

Handmade women’s babydoll dress, originally produced in the 1970s and sourced secondhand from Pale Blue Dot, a zero-waste thrift shop in Hamilton. The dress has been altered by hand with a ribcage appliqué sewn directly onto the bodice.

The ribcage form was drawn and cut from post-consumer cotton canvas and attached using visible stitching. Seams remain exposed and uneven, leaving the construction process legible. The appliqué sits on top of the original garment rather than replacing it.

The entire dress was immersed in a non-toxic natural dye bath, resulting in a softly mottled surface with uneven tonal variation. Pre-existing marks from prior use remain visible and were not corrected.

A Chains label is affixed at the rear zipper.
