Description

Originally a handmade women’s dress from the 1970s, found at Pale Blue Dot—a zero-waste living and thrift shop in Hamilton. The piece was remade by Chains with a hand-drawn, hand-cut ribcage appliqué, sewn directly onto the existing bodice. The applique is cut from post-consumer canvas cotton scraps and stitched in visible seams that emphasize construction.

The entire garment was immersed in non-toxic natural dye, producing a softly mottled surface and uneven tonal finish. The result is a singular dress that merges domestic craft with anatomical study—an artifact of repair and reanimation.
