Modular dining table and chair system produced in collaboration with Agile Fabrication, constructed from FSC-certified birch plywood with hand-sewn reclaimed textile surfaces.

Category: Edition Objects

File Under: #SustainableFurniture #ModularLiving

Description

Modular dining table and chair system developed as part of Chains Cut, a studio project focused on material reduction, tool-free construction, and domestic infrastructure. Designed in 2023 and produced in collaboration with Erik LeBrun of Agile Fabrication in Haute-Aboujagane, New Brunswick.

All structural components are cut from FSC-certified birch plywood manufactured using soy-based, formaldehyde-free adhesive. Surfaces are sealed with VOC-free tung oil. The system is designed to assemble and disassemble without tools, allowing for flat-pack storage and transport.

Textile elements are hand-sewn by Chains using reclaimed garments and deadstock fabric. Sewing is performed without machinery, using found thread and ribbon. The textiles function as seating and surface interfaces rather than decorative upholstery.

The set is designed to ship by ground and to store within a standard 6-foot shipping container. Each edition includes a materials ledger documenting wood source, finishes, textiles, and fabrication labor. Additional editions may be produced to order with a six-month lead time.

Within Clearance Archive, the Detention Dining Set is positioned as a functional domestic object and as a continuation of Chains Cut’s investigation into furniture as infrastructure rather than décor.
